Against the backdrop of ongoing satisfactory development in the rolled steel and tubes businesses, Salzgitter AG has set new sales and profit records for the first nine months of a financial year thanks to the outstanding results of the first half year and a better-than-expected third quarter.

Salzgitter AG and Karmann GmbH are jointly developing and creating the vehicle body concept of the future.

Salzgitter AG and Wilhelm Karmann GmbH are pooling their skills in partnership to achieve new breakthroughs. After working together on the atlas spaceframe project, they now intend to go a stage further with SCALIGHT.

New steel product with outstanding properties

In the first six months of the financial year 2005, Salzgitter AG achieved an outstanding increase in both sales and profit. Whereas the rolled steel business still benefited from orders on hand placed during the boom phase of the market, the demand for tubes remained at a persistently high level.

Thanks to strong global demand and the generally satisfactory level of prices – achieved in stages since the beginning of last year – for rolled steel products and tubes, the Salzgitter Group recorded exceptional rises in sales and profits in the first quarter of 2005 over the same period in 2004 which had marked the start of the present favorable situation in the steel market.

The companies that have been managed to date under the Processing Division of the Salzgitter Group have been assigned to the Group's Steel and Services Division as of  April 1, 2005.
