Salzgitter AG is to acquire the hydroforming activities of the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group. Salzgitter’s own business in this innovative field of technology has recently been growing sharply, and this move marks a substantial expansion.

Leading pan-European position in steel research

Salzgitter AG's new pilot plant strengthens its position as a premium supplier of steel materials. "Research and development forms a key basis of our Group's overall strategy of operating as a successful niche player," as Dr. Wolfgang Leese, Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG, stated a recent presentation for customers and business partners.

The precision tubes group of the Tubes Division, headed by Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision GmbH, has reinforced its position on the high-growth North American market (NAFTA).

During the third quarter of 2007, demand for steel and tubes products remained lively, not only in Germany, but also throughout the rest of Europe and in most overseas markets. Against this extremely positive economic background, the Salzgitter Group set new record highs in its sales and operating profit for a nine-month period.

Some 150 ambassadors, trade commissioners and leading representatives of the business world from more than 100 countries recently paid a visit to Lower Saxony. Apart from a conference on economic topics, getting to know the region’s leading enterprises was high on the agenda – and around 50 participants decided to take a closer look at steel manufacturing in Salzgitter.

Nord Stream AG and EUROPIPE GmbH today signed a contract for the supply of steel pipes for the construction of the pipeline across the Baltic Sea. EUROPIPE will supply 75 per cent of the pipes for the first 1,200 kilometres gas pipeline from Vyborg in Russia to Lubmin in Germany. Russian pipe company OMK (Vyksa) has been awarded a contract on 6 November 2007 for 25 per cent of the total.

EUROPIPE was founded in 1991 by the Dillinger Hütte and Salzgitter Mannesmann groups. The global leader in the production of large welded pipes has production locations in Germany, France, Brasil and the USA. The company has a permanent staff of around 1,400 people.

Hoesch Schwerter Profile (a company of the Calvi Group), based in Schwerte, Germany, has signed a subcontracting agreement with Peiner Träger GmbH, a company of the Salzgitter Group, based in Peine, Germany.

IISI delegates view steel production and the technical development center in Salzgitter. After the meetings and conventions at the IISI World Steel Conference in Berlin, it was time for the participants to get a taste of the practical. Guests from abroad had the chance to gain an insight into German steel production, and a high-powered delegation visited Salzgitter AG.
