Prof. Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann was therefore appointed to the position of new Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG with effect from February 1, 2011, in the meeting. At the same time, Mr. Burkhard Becker, formerly Chief Financial Officer of KHS GmbH and Board member of Klöckner Werke AG, was appointed as a member of Salzgitter AG's Executive Board and Prof. Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann’s successor responsible for corporate finance.

The wide-ranging business activities of the Salzgitter Group have reaped tangible benefit from the general economic recovery over the course of the first nine months of the financial year 2010.

Key figures for the third quarter 2010

As expected, the positive results trend of Salzgitter Group continued in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2010. Within the period from July to September, consolidated external sales amounted to € 2,158.4 million (third quarter 2009: € 1,834.6 million).

Salzgitter presents new types of steel and applications

From 26 to 30 October 2010, EuroBLECH in Hannover will once again feature as the “must attend” meeting place for everyone involved in sheet metal manufacture, forming and trading. The Salzgitter Group companies will be on location in Hall 16, Stand F54, including Salzgitter Flachstahl, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung, Salzgitter Europlatinen, Salzgitter Automotive Engineering, Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel and Salzgitter Hydroforming.

From 6 – 8 October the 6th International Suppliers Fair (IZB) will take place in Wolfsburg. The event will be attracting around 650 exhibitors from 22 countries. Canada and the United States are this year’s partner countries. The Salzgitter stand with the number 100 is situated in Hall 1.

Worldwide unique casting concept offers new steel grades and is resource-friendly

Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, the largest steel subsidiary of the Salzgitter Group, has placed an order with SMS Siemag AG for the construction of a near-net-shape caster in Peine.

The positive earnings trend of the Salzgitter Group continued in the second quarter of the financial year 2010 in the form of a pre-tax profit. Contributing factors included the satisfactory capacity utilization situation of most product segments and the sharp increase in selling prices in steel trading operations. Particularly when compared with the crisis-ridden previous year's period, the business of the Group has clearly stabilized.

In today’s extraordinary meeting the Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG has unanimously appointed Prof. Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann as the Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG for the period from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2016.
