Portrait, People, Philosophy

Today's large wind rotors measure a good 120 meters. When gale force winds whip up, rotor blades and base towers are exposed to incredible forces. The bending momentum that the enormous rotor blades transmit to the hub of the rotor during squalls corresponds to the weight of three fully-grown blue whales balancing on the end of a three-meter diving board.

Only steel can withstand such forces – such as the heavy plate by Salzgitter found in towers, rotors and hubs, transforming even the strongest winds into available energy.
